FAQ’s answered by Nature Coast Aquascape about pond cleaning in Central Florida area.

How often do I have to have my pond cleaned?
Generally you only have to have your pond cleaned once a year. In a proper balanced eco-friendly pond, it will self-sustain itself for a year with little maintenance per month.

When is the best time to clean my pond ?
The best time for you to have your pond cleaned is spring time. The reason behind that is because your aquatic plants are about to hit their peak growing time and the major tree leaves loss is over.

Do I need to remove all of my aquatic plants and replace them?
Yes and no. At Nature Coast Aquascape we strongly recommend removing your aquatic plants during your cleaning. That way you can remove most to all of the decaying root matter from the pond. If you leave this behind this can lead to excessive algae bloom because of the nutrients it adds back into the water after the cleaning. As far as replacing your old aquatic plants the answer is no. You can reuse the original aquatic plants. Once removed they can be thinned out and replanted in the pond after your cleaning is complete.

What happens to my fish?
Upon arrival Nature Coast Aquascape sets up a tub in which we will fill with the original pond water for your fish. This helps to reduce stress for your fish. We also put in a water aerator to keep a sufficient amount of oxygen in the water for your fish. Upon completion of your pond cleaning we reintroduce your fish back into their pond.

Do my filters need to be cleaned?
Yes your filters need to be cleaned. Nature Coast Aquascape always cleans your filters every time we clean your pond. Over the year from all the decaying matter that your filter is filtering out of your water for you, can eventually cause restriction to your water flow. This can lead to leaks in your pond or even worse, pump failure.
